2008 Scholarship Winners
        Nicholas Carmen Barone is in his sophomore year at Penn State University where he plans to major in Finance or Business Management. He made the Dean’s List both fall & spring semesters of his freshman year, currently holding a 3.9 GPA. Nicholas’s involvement at Penn State includes active membership in the Economics Association, the Financial Management Association, and the Professional Management Association. In addition, he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and served as the Pledge Class President. Nicholas attended Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville graduating with distinguished honors of a 4.08 GPA. He was Captain of the Gateway Varsity Baseball Team, chosen member of the National Honors Society and was selected as a Gateway Senior High School Scholar Athlete. Nicholas is son of Anthony Barone of member firm Carmen Barone & Sons, Inc. where he has worked the past seven summers to help save money for college. His educational goals are to continue on for a Masters’ degree and ultimately take over and run the family construction business.
        Thomas Jeffrey Miller is in his senior year at Penn State University majoring in Architecture. He currently holds a 3.30 GPA and is due to graduate from the five year program in 2010. Thomas’s extra-curricular activities at PSU include Team Leader for the 2008 Thorpe Competition winning 2nd prize, Member of the 2009 Solar Decathlon Team, and Team Leader for the 2009 Vertical Lift Museum Design Project. Thomas attended Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville. He was a 3 year Varsity Hockey Letterman and a 4 year Varsity Golf Letterman named Team Captain in 2005. Tom was a member of the National Honor Society from 10th through 12th grade, Varsity Club Member and Renaissance Award Program both 9th through 12th grade. In addition to his high school athletics Tom played for the Pittsburgh Predators Travel Hockey Team (2004-2006) served as Captain in 2006 and was on the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins AAA Travel Hockey Team (1998-2003). Thomas is son of Jeff Miller of member firm Climatech, Inc. where he worked summers from 2004-2007. This past summer he was an architecture intern with Weber Murphy Fox and will be studying abroad in Italy next spring. Thomas aspires to be a principle in his own firm focusing in green architecture.
